July 2010 Volunteer of the Month

July 2010 Amy Woo

File 539Amy Woo is a native Calgarian and a recent graduate of SUNY Plattsburgh in upstate New York with a BA in Spanish and Latin American Studies.  While working towards her dream job of becoming a Foreign Service Ambassador for Canadians abroad, Amy has been volunteering her time as a translator at Immigrant Services Calgary since 2008.

“I started volunteering because it was a good way to practice my Spanish as well as giving back to the community.  I really like translating because the schedule is flexible and I get to volunteer on my schedule!  Plus, I get insight into what life is like in other countries…I look forward to more volunteering with Immigrant Services Calgary!”

Amy has always shown an incredible willingness to help others and is a true asset to our team of volunteers. Thank you Amy for remaining so committed to our agency and to assisting our staff and clients at the Language Bank.  We are all truly grateful for the work that you continue to do.
