Volunteer of the Month - February 2011
February 2011 - Brenda Moore
Brenda Moore was born in Saskatchewan and moved to Calgary in 1963. The city of the Rocky Mountains has been her home since then. In 1995 Brenda decided to volunteer even though “I was not sure which path to follow,” as she expresses. Three years later, her interest in children motivated her to volunteer as a day care helper. “I enjoy it so much that since then I keep volunteering with children. They are full of energy and happiness!” says Brenda.
Then in January 2009, Brenda joined Immigrant Services Calgary as a Children’s Program volunteer and she has felt delighted to be surrounded by immigrant children. “Volunteering at ISC makes me feel happy and appreciated. I love to help and work with children. When the week starts, I am counting the hours to be at ISC. When I see those little happy faces, I feel I’ve accomplished my day!”
When ISC staff is asked about Brenda they smile and compliment her: “She is a very dedicated and reliable volunteer.” and "She displays lots of patience and compassion with the children.” Brenda is volunteering at other agencies as well. “I committed myself to volunteering on a weekly basis as I loved the idea of helping in different ways”.
Thanks Brenda! We also love to have you as a team member. You are truly making a difference in the children’s lives!
