Background: The Anti-Racism and Human Rights Outreach Program has been developed in response to the increase in human rights complaints filed on the grounds of race, colour, and place of origin in the areas of workplace and tenancy in Alberta.

Objectives: To increase the capacity of immigrants and refuges new to Canada and the greater Calgary community to recognize, understand, and react properly to the actions of racism and human rights violation; to increase the capacity of key target audiences including: immigrant, refugee, and temporary foreign worker communities, the business community, human service providers, and the community at large, to be able to do cultural bridging avoiding racism and discrimination.

  • Anti-Racism and Human Rights for Seniors in Alberta

  • Supporting Clients Human Rights : Tool for Human Services Professionals
  • Anti-Racism and Intercultural Communication for Community Members : Tools for Leaders of Ethno-Cultural Community Organizations
Referrals
  • Program staff provide individuals with support in the form of referrals to appropriate agencies or organizations

 

One-on-One Consultations
  • Program staff can consult with individuals to answer questions about particular legislation within Alberta regarding human rights

 

Interpretation Support
  • Immigrant Services Calgary provides services to clients in over 70 languages and interpretation of contracts or leasing agreements can support individuals in their employment or tenancy processes

 

Human Rights Leadership Training
  • Services provided for leaders of Ethno-Cultural community organizations to educate member about their human rights in Canada and Alberta and how to respond in the event of discrimination
