ILVARC is a centralized assessment and referral centre designed to help immigrants and refugees achieve their linguistic, educational, vocational, and career goals. ILVARC is also authorized to determine clients’ eligibility for the federally sponsored Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) program. Services are provided by appointment only. ILVARC also publishes a biannual Directory of ESL Programs and Services for Immigrants and International Students in Calgary .
- Assessment of immigrant's English proficiency and/or first language literacy
- Eligibility determination for the LINC
- Information on, and referral to, appropriate LINC or English as a Second Language (ESL) classes
- Assistance with Advancing Vocational/ Career/ Employability Goal
- Counselling in first language or English regarding education, career planning, accreditation
- Workshops are offered to clients in English and other languages upon request. Topics may include: career planning, job search strategies, resume writing, interview skills, financial resources available, information on training programs and accreditation procedures.
