Immigrant Services Calgary is pleased to announce the first Call for Nominations for the 2010 Immigrants of Distinction Awards. Nominations for all categories are now open and applications will be accepted until Friday November 13, 2009 at 1:00 pm. Since 1997, Immigrant Services Calgary has hosted the annual Immigrants of Distinction Awards gala. The event honors immigrants and refugees who have made outstanding contributions to Calgary and their community through their skills, passion and vision. The achievements of these individuals and businesses contribute to building the strength and cultural richness of Calgary. At the yearly gala, awards are presented to outstanding individuals and businesses, and scholarships are presented to immigrant and refugee youth.
Currently Accepting Nominations:

Individual nominations in the categories of Arts and Culture, Business, Community Service and Distinguished Professional.

Individual nominations for the Hadassah Ksienski Distinguished Service Award.

Business/Organization nominations for the Organizational Diversity category.
Individuals who are nominated must reside in Calgary or the surrounding area. Nominated organizations must have a Calgary office, either locally owned or a local branch of a national or multi-national organization. All nominations are to be submitted on Nomination Forms available from Immigrant Services Calgary. All entries will be reviewed by an anonymous selection committee comprised of community members.
Award recipients will be announced at the 2010 Immigrants of Distinction Awards Gala in the spring of 2010.

To be considered for an Immigrants of Distinction Awards Youth Scholarship, youth can either be nominated by someone else or by themselves. In addition to the awards presented at the gala, Youth Scholarships are also presented to immigrant and refugee youth.
To be considered, youth must reside in Calgary or the surrounding area. All nominations/applications are to be submitted on Nomination/Application Forms available from Immigrant Services Calgary. All entries will be reviewed by an anonymous selection committee comprised of community members.
Youth Scholarship recipients will be announced in the spring of 2010 and presented at the 2010 Immigrants of Distinction Awards Gala.

On Thursday March 12th, 2009 Immigrant Services Calgary hosted the 13th Annual Immigrants of Distinction Awards at the Westin in Calgary. Award recipients were announced in the categories of arts and culture, business, community service, distinguished professional and organizational diversity. Five immigrant youth scholarships and an inaugural Hadassah Ksienski Distinguished Service Award were also presented at the gala.

The gala hosted 500 guests this year, including representatives from the municipal, provincial, and federal government, the voluntary sector, the business community and diverse ethnic communities.
All proceeds from this gala benefit the Mosaic Family Resource Centre at Immigrant Services Calgary, which provides innovative holistic programming for children, youth and parents aimed at decreasing social isolation and increasing the quality of life for the whole family.
