2007 Immigrants of Distinction Award Winner represents Canada at 2010 Chaco Biennial

In 2007, Vahe Tokmajyan was the recipient of the Arts and Culture Award from the Immigrants of Distinction Awards. In addition to being an amazing artist, Vahe teaches Drawing and Sculpture at the University of Calgary through the Continuing Education program at the University of Calgary. This year, he represented Canada at the Chaco Biennal in Argentina, a prominent art event attended by over 150,000 spectators.

In 2010, over 170 applicants applied from over 50 countries, and Vahe was one of only 10 sculptors selected from 10 countries. The theme of the sculpture Biennial was Globalization, and Vahe's concept was "Global Idea", and was inspired by Canadian Multiculturalism. He recieved the Public Choice Award of the 2010 Biennal. His inspiring story showcases once again the importance of recognizing the achivements of newcomers, whose creativity, innovation and inspiration can lead to international celebration of Canada's multiculturalism and pluralism.
