Immigrant Services Calgary CEO is Awarded the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal

Immigrant Services Calgary (ISC) would like to sincerely congratulate our CEO, Hyder Hassan, for being awarded the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal on September 2, 2022! The new commemorative medal has been created to mark the 70th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada.

The Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal is being awarded to 7,000 Albertans throughout 2022 in recognition of their significant contributions to Canada, Alberta, or a particular Alberta region or community. Nominations are submitted by a broad range of program partners, including Members of the Legislative Assembly, Indigenous organizations, the Canadian Armed Forces, various Protective Services, and an array of non-governmental community-based organizations.

Hyder Hassan’s commitment to unleashing the economic, social, and civic potential of immigrants and refugees and his tireless efforts to create a holistic and collaborative approach to serving newcomers through initiatives like Gateway and the Calgary Newcomers Collaborative have not gone unnoticed. At ISC, we are grateful to have such a visionary leader who encourages innovation and facilitates the transformation of the immigrant-serving sector by breaking down siloes, enhancing collaboration among stakeholders, and streamlining processes for the benefit of newcomers to Canada.

"I am very honoured to receive the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal. I’d like to dedicate it to my team – Immigrant Services Calgary’s staff, volunteers, and Board, in addition to our community partners who have demonstrated outstanding dedication to supporting our vision of unleashing newcomers’ potential and empowering them to realize their dreams in their new home in Canada. All our progress in enhancing and transforming how we serve immigrants and refugees would not have been possible without their contributions. I would also like to thank Lieutenant Governor Salma Lakhani for her impeccable leadership and support of our work. Receiving this Medal reinforces that we are on the right path, and I look forward to continuing to support newcomers and serve our communities."
