Mary Fasola – Volunteer of the Month for September 2022

Mary Fasola first immigrated to Canada in 2009 to pursue an education in business administration and management at SAIT. When she came across Immigrant Services Calgary (ISC) in a web search, she was inspired by the organization’s support for new immigrants and felt aligned with ISC’s values, so she decided to join our team! Mary provided excellent in-person support to our Client Care Team by assisting with client check-ins and answering incoming calls. We would like to thank Mary for her important contributions, and commend her on her professionalism and desire to help others! This is her story:

"I came across ISC online and read about all the support offered by ISC to new immigrants in our community. ISC values attracted me to sign up and be a volunteer. I remember wishing that I knew about ISC when I first immigrated when I moved to Canada in 2009. It is a joy seeing all the benefits ISC offers to new immigrants today. My favorite part about my volunteering is the feeling I get from being able to help a client either by phone or in person. It is especially fulfilling to know that when clients inquire, I can provide the information they need that will make their settlement experience much easier. I aspire to make a difference in my community by way of volunteering. I love meeting people and learning about their culture. Volunteering has provided me with that opportunity."

“Mary is an excellent volunteer who has provided outstanding in-person support to our Client Care Team by checking-in clients and screening for COVID-19 until the health restrictions were lifted. Additionally, she has provided relief to our team by assisting us with processing a high volume of client calls. Some of her attributes that I want to highlight include her nice personality, professionalism, responsiveness, and approachability. Thank you for helping us to serve our clients better!”
