Ayesha Uzma Akram – Volunteer of the Month for September 2025

Born in Pakistan and raised in Zambia, Ayesha Uzma Akram moved to Canada two years ago. Her experiences living in Pakistan, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Zambia, and Canada have given her a unique perspective on diversity, community, and resilience.
Fluent in Punjabi, Urdu, Hindi, Saraiki, Gujarati, English, and Nyanja, Ayesha uses her language skills to connect with newcomers and help them feel at home in Calgary. She first learned about Immigrant Services Calgary through an information session at the public library and was drawn to the organization’s mission of supporting newcomers.

Volunteering with ISC has allowed Ayesha to share her experiences, listen with empathy, and empower others. “Every small act of kindness creates a ripple effect, and I am grateful to play even a small role in that,” she shares. She enjoys connecting with people from diverse backgrounds, offering encouragement and building meaningful relationships.

Ayesha’s academic background reflects her passion for continuous learning. She holds two master’s degrees, one in Politics from the UK and another in Literature from Pakistan, and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Education. She has also completed HR Management certification in Abu Dhabi, IELTS Academic in the UAE, and a Pharmacy Assistant diploma in Calgary. She is enrolled in the Interpreter and Translator Training Program with CIWA to expand her skills further.

Before arriving in Canada, Ayesha worked as a teacher and volunteer in Pakistan, the UK, and the UAE. These experiences deepened her commitment to education and community service and continue to guide her volunteer work with ISC.

“Ayesha’s eagerness, generosity, and diverse skills make her a true asset to our volunteer community. Her dedication and positivity make her invaluable to our volunteer team.” – Rehime Ahad, Coordinator, Volunteer Services.

Thank you, Ayesha, for your dedication and for making a difference in the lives of newcomers. Your contributions remind us of the power of compassion and community.
