Every year since 2021, Immigrant Services Calgary (ISC), in partnership with the Calgary Stampede Promotion Committee, and ENMAX have brought the Calgary Stampede Pop-Ups Neighbours experience to newcomer families across Calgary.

This year volunteers visited 24 newcomer families, surprising them with the Stampede experience of a White Hat Ceremony, and a gift of admission tickets to the grounds, welcoming them into one of Calgary's most cherished traditions. Because belonging begins with feeling included.

When Community Comes to Your Door

Settling into a new country means more than housing, jobs, and schools. It also means discovering the traditions that make a community feel like home.

"Our settlement process is about more than accessing services," explained ISC CEO Kate Price during a recent interview. "It's about building relationships, creating community, and helping people connect with local traditions. The Calgary Stampede is such an important part of Calgary's identity, and these pop-ups give families the opportunity to experience that community spirit firsthand." 

For many kids, the excitement was immediate: meeting volunteers and mascots and taking part in their first Stampede experience. 

Building Belonging, One Family at a Time

Community traditions like the Stampede help newcomers build confidence, create memories, and feel connected to their new home. Welcoming someone isn't just opening a door; it's inviting them into the community.
