Choudhry-Irfan Sabir: Volunteer of the Month for May 2026

Immigrant Services Calgary (ISC) is proud to recognize Choudhry-Irfan Sabir as our Volunteer of the Month for May 2026.

Originally from Azad Kashmir, Pakistan, Irfan moved to Canada in April 2021. He first connected with ISC through a Gateway Newcomer Planner and was inspired by the organization’s mission to support newcomers as they navigate life in Canada.

Fluent in English, Urdu, Pahari, and Punjabi, Irfan is passionate about building meaningful connections and helping others feel supported in their settlement journeys.

“Connecting with people and seeing the impact of small actions is what I enjoy most about volunteering. Whether it’s helping someone navigate a system or simply being a listening ear, it’s about making a difference in someone’s day.”

With a law degree from the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan, Irfan previously practiced law with the Supreme Court of AJ&K, focusing on family law, civil litigation, and employment law. His work has long been rooted in advocating for human rights, social justice, and equal access to opportunities.

After moving to Canada, Irfan completed the Foreign Trained Lawyers Program at the University of Calgary and is currently pursuing articleship opportunities as he works toward becoming a licensed barrister and solicitor in Canada.

For Irfan, volunteering is both a way to give back and an opportunity for continued learning and growth.

“Volunteering is a game-changer, particularly for newcomers in Canada. It offers opportunities to give back, enhance skills, and build meaningful connections while contributing to the community.”

“Irfan, your volunteering is a powerful act that positively impacts our seniors’ community program and enriches the lives of seniors through your time and effort during the English Conversation Corner. Your passion is a driving force behind every successful endeavour, and your encouragement and support of our seniors’ daily activities is truly appreciated. The CISP team values your contribution, and so do the seniors.” - Joy Tan (She/Her), Gateway Newcomer Planner – Seniors

Thank you, Irfan, for your dedication, compassion, and commitment to supporting newcomers and strengthening our community.
