Edward Hung – Volunteer of the Month for June 2025
Edward Hung is our ISC Volunteer of the Month for June 2025! With an impressive 74 hours of service, Edward has contributed his time to our Seniors Program and support with external partner organizations.
Originally from Taiwan, Edward moved to Canada in 1995 at age 12, spent several years in China starting in 2002, and returned to Canada around 2017. He and his family relocated to Calgary in 2018.
Fluent in Mandarin and English, Edward first connected with Immigrant Services Calgary when helping his wife register for LINC classes. Impressed by ISC’s support, he felt inspired to get involved.
“I have always been grateful for how ISC has helped out my wife … As I become more involved … I can feel that what I’m offering, although only a small part, is helping organizations like ISC make positive impacts to various local communities and improving the quality of life for new immigrants.”
Edward’s volunteering allows him to engage with people from diverse cultures, support seniors, and participate in meaningful community events. He values the sense of accomplishment and the chance to work collaboratively across cultures.
Looking ahead, Edward plans to continue volunteering, brought back each time by that fulfilling sense of purpose.
“It is a great way to meet new people in a friendly and encouraging environment … especially for immigrants, to experience and learn how the Canadian social system works, helping them to adapt to their new lives in Canada.”
Before pursuing freelance opportunities, Edward completed medical training in China, worked as a physician assistant in the U.S., and built a strong career as a translator and interpreter—leveraging his language skills and cultural insight.
Joy Tan, Gateway Newcomer Planner – Seniors Program, adds:
“The CISP team appreciates Edward Hung for his help with our team. Thanks to your hard work, compassion, and passion, we can run fitness and life-skill classes. You always brighten up seniors’ day with a smile. We couldn’t have gotten those excellent results without the help of our gracious volunteers like you.”
We are deeply grateful for Edward’s enthusiasm, dedication, and the positive energy he brings to ISC programs.
Thank you, Edward, for everything you do!
