Janica Altea L. Echavez
Janica Echavez immigrated to Canada from the Philippines in 2012. She is the National VP Operations of the Science Expo Youth Empowerment Group and a Production Assistant in Student Energy at the University of Calgary Schulich School of Engineering. Janica is the founder of the National Science Expo team and has helped more than 500 students across Canada by connecting them to local STEM communities and encouraging them to take part in hands-on learning.She has also founded a nationwide mentorship program and has helped organize three STEM conferences in Alberta, Ontario and British Columbia. Janica has also played a significant role in the team that has developed Canada’s first at-home STI screening kit. Once launched, this new technology will play a critical role in women’s health and in the early detection and prevention of cervical cancer.
