Ruth Legese came to Canada from Ethiopia in 2004. She is passionate about improving cardiac care in Ethiopia. Between 2016 and 2017 Ms. Legese spent 7 weeks assisting with post-operation care for over 60 children at the Black Lion Cardiac Centre. She founded the Habesha Students’ Society (HSS) at the University of Calgary and has organized successful fundraisers, awareness projects and cultural showcases.
Ms. Legese was presently a Biomedical Science student at the University of Calgary. She earned the prestigious Chancellor’s Club Scholarship in 2016 and 2017 for her excellent academic records.
Ms. Legese is a recipient of the ConocoPhillips Youth of Distinction Award for Leadership in Environmental Advocacy in 2016 and is a member of the Scholar’s Academy program at the University of Calgary.
