After immigrating to Canada from a small town in India in 2011, Mr. Nihal Potdar has been inspired to partake in several community initiatives in the field of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Nihal wishes to bring STEM learning resources to the youth in his Indian hometown.
After overcoming countless cultural barriers, Nihal began taking steps to ensure that other immigrants would not have to face the same anxieties he once did and started a mentor service for new immigrant youth. His organization, “Comp Science For Life”, organizes events, offers internships and promotes STEM to youth. He also co-created a product, called the Virtual Control Panel, that better integrates people with disabilities into their environment by designing smart-home systems and implementing a remote-control panel.
Nihal is a regular volunteer at the Anagha Datta Society, which provides resources to homeless shelters and raises money for poor countries. He truly embodies the ideals of community service, leadership and compassion.
