Oluseyi Smith

Mr. Oluseyi (Seyi) Smith is a two-time Olympian with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and Master of Science in Renewable Energy Technology from Loughborough University. Mr. Smith came to Canada from Nigeria in 1997 and now works as a Project Manager in Alberta’s utility industry. From a young age, Mr. Smith had a deep passion for sport. He is one of the few Canadians to compete in both the Summer and Winter Olympics. Mr. Smith competed as a sprinter in the 2012 London Olympic Games, where his relay team placed for Bronze before a heart-breaking disqualification. Mr. Smith also competed as a bobsledder in the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Games.

Mr. Smith volunteers for the Canadian Olympic Committee to create safe environments for children who wish to play amateur sports, as well as advocating to increase amateur sports in Canada. Mr. Smith frequently delivers speeches to the community on integrity and how to balance competing demands. Although he has encountered many obstacles along his journey, Mr. Smith’s hard work and volunteer efforts have allowed him to reach great heights. Mr. Smith is a model of how to overcome obstacles through perseverance and dedication.
