Karen Virginia Venot Hung -Volunteer of the Month for November 2025

Karen Virginia Venot Hung is originally from Caracas, Venezuela. She moved to Canada a year and a half ago and has been gradually building a new life in Calgary.

Karen first learned about Immigrant Services Calgary through a family member’s recommendation. After receiving support during her own settlement planning, she felt inspired to give back. Volunteering became a meaningful way for her to show appreciation for the guidance and warmth she experienced as a newcomer.

Karen supports ISC as a volunteer interpreter and by welcoming clients at the front desk. She enjoys connecting with people from different backgrounds and offering a friendly and supportive presence. Being part of an environment that values kindness and inclusion gives her a deep sense of purpose.

Before coming to Canada, Karen earned a degree in Sociology and gained over 25 years of experience in customer service and hospitality. Her professional background has shaped her commitment to creating welcoming spaces and supporting others with empathy and compassion.

Karen plans to continue volunteering. She views it as an essential means of staying connected with the community and supporting newcomers as they embark on their own journey in Canada. She encourages others to volunteer because it helps build relationships, strengthens communities, and allows people to make a positive and lasting impact.

“Karen, as a volunteer of the month, has shown remarkable dedication at the front desk, becoming a key part of our daily operations. Their contribution ensures every visitor feels supported and valued.”
