Immigrant Services Calgary (ISC) is pleased to highlight the time and efforts of Rand Arnous, a dedicated volunteer who uses her newcomer experience and passion for helping others to support immigrants settling in Canada.

Rand is of Syrian heritage and was born and raised in Saudi Arabia before moving to Canada in July of 2024. Fluent in English and Arabic, she brings valuable language skills to her volunteer role.

Rand first learned about ISC through a Google search while looking for ways to help immigrants facing language barriers.

“My goal is to help newcomers overcome language barriers and access the services they need. Volunteering with ISC allows me to give back to the community while using my Arabic language skills.”

For Rand, the most rewarding part of volunteering is knowing that small acts of support can make someone’s experience in Canada easier and more comfortable.

She plans to continue volunteering to make a meaningful impact, strengthen her communication skills, and gain experience working with diverse groups.

Before coming to Canada, Rand graduated from an international high school in Saudi Arabia and volunteered by supporting younger children through school events, activities, and teaching support. She is now a third-year psychology major at the University of Calgary and also volunteers with Ronald McDonald House at the Foothills hospital.

She encourages others to volunteer as a way to give back, gain experience, meet new people, and support those building a new life in Canada.
