Sangeetha’s Journey: From Newcomer to Language Instructor

In pursuit of new opportunities and a brighter future, Sangeetha Dayanidhi and her family left the southern part of India to begin a new chapter in Canada. Like many newcomers, their journey came with both challenges and triumphs, moments that would ultimately shape Sangeetha into the resilient Canadian she is today.

A turning point in her settlement story came when she connected with Immigrant Services Calgary (ISC). Through ISC, she accessed essential resources and unwavering support that gave her the confidence to move forward. One service offered by ISC's Calgary Language Assessment and Referral Centre (CLARC) proved transformative: a free language assessment.

That assessment, facilitated by her assessor, became a catalyst for change. It identified her strengths and opened professional doors she had not yet imagined. With steady encouragement and guidance from ISC’s dedicated professionals, Sangeetha began to see a new path for herself. She pursued an Education Assistant course, a decision that reshaped her career and fueled her passion for teaching.

Today, Sangeetha works as a LINC (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada) instructor at The Immigrant Education Society (TIES), where she empowers other newcomers to find their voices, build their skills, and thrive in their new home.

“My story is evidence of how Immigrant Services Calgary plays a vital role in empowering individuals to not only succeed but also give back to the community,” she reflects.

Sangeetha’s journey is a testament to the power of timely support, personalized guidance, and a belief in one’s potential, a story that comes full circle in the service of others.
