Tahmin Upoma – Volunteer of the Month for February 2026

Tahmin Upoma moved to Calgary as a Permanent Resident in 2024. The guidance and support she received from Immigrant Services Calgary (ISC) early in her settlement journey inspired her to give back to the community that helped her feel at home.

She first heard about ISC while searching for career counselling and settlement support as a newcomer. Now, as an ISC volunteer, she offers administrative assistance and helps create a welcoming environment for all visitors.

“Volunteering at ISC is deeply meaningful to me. I love helping newcomers feel supported and confident as they begin their new lives in Canada,” says Tahmin.

Originally from Bangladesh, Tahmin speaks Bengali, English, and Hindi, allowing her to connect with newcomers from diverse backgrounds. She enjoys meeting people, listening to their stories, and helping them feel welcomed and understood through her volunteer work.

Tahmin plans to continue volunteering to stay engaged with her community and gain new skills. She believes volunteering is a powerful way to give back, make a positive impact, and build lasting connections.

Before immigrating, Tahmin earned a Bachelor of Business Administration with a specialization in Marketing and worked as a Customer Care Executive in Bangladesh. Now, she is studying Medical Office Assistant at MCG Career College and volunteers with ISC, CIWA, and Unison, continuing to build her skills while supporting Calgary’s newcomer communities.

We are grateful to Tahmin for her dedication, compassion, and positive energy in serving others. Thank you, Tahmin, for helping make ISC a welcoming place for newcomers!
