Nancy Marr – Volunteer of the Month for May 2021

Nancy smiles broadly at the cameraNancy came to Canada when she was 16. Immigrant Services Calgary (ISC) helped her family to settle in Calgary and provided employment training to her mother who successfully found a job. She wanted to give back to the organization who supported her family's settlement, she started volunteering as a youth mentor in 2008. She has contributed over 200 hours since starting her volunteer journey with Immigrant Service Calgary. Nancy has kept busy through the years, but she has been able to contribute where she can back to ISC, the latest project was hand-making face masks for other volunteers. Currently, Nancy is a part of the Youth Connection Program and offers support in e-commerce business set-up.

“Nancy did a workshop on how to start an online business to Core connection youth and it was very well received. She was able to explain complicated concepts in simple and easy to understand language. Her attentive ways, her positive energy and desire to build capacity was greatly appreciated by youth.”
