Reporting to and partnering with the Lead, Startup Advisors, the right candidate will have the opportunity to work alongside a mission-driven team that is passionate about supporting startups and innovators and committed to Shipping It, Shout Outs and Moving the Needed Forward! This role is a contract position through March 2025.
The day-to-day activities of the Junior Startup Advisor will include:
  • Advisory Services. Facilitate early Founder conversations and assess next steps in regards to the programming offered by Platform Calgary. Coordinate 1 on 1 mentorship and coaching sessions between founders and our team of Startup Advisors.  Utilizing skills learned from previous work experience, work to assist in the mentorship of founders and further development of the Platform Calgary Advisory Network.
  • Facilitation. Assist in the delivery of early stage programming such as Startup Essentials, Discover & Engage. Help construct and grow internal programming targeted at early stage founders.
  • Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Accessibility. Assist in the development of initiatives to provide additional support to under-represented founders in the Calgary startup ecosystem and increase representation across programming, coaching and in the founder community.
  • Communication & Relationship Building. Work cross-functionally to ensure alignment across coaching and programming initiatives. Develop and build on relationships with a team of Startup Advisors, coaches, investors and partners. Conduct follow up communication with companies post-programming and ensure progression through the engagement pipeline.
  • Develop and Lead. Grow Platform Calgary’s portfolio of advised founders through the management of inbound lead pipeline including voicemail, startup advisor inbox and intake calls and the proper maintenance of the portfolio system.
  • Business Analytics. Strive to capture key data points to demonstrate the value being brought through Platform Calgary’s programming and membership to present this data in a way that captivates the audience and increases funding directed towards programming.
The right candidate will demonstrate the following qualifications on their resume:
  • Creative problem-solving aptitude with the ability to work well independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated experience working in entrepreneurship as a founder or as a member within a startup.
  • Knowledgeable about entrepreneur development and team organization.
Nice to Haves:
  • Advanced skills  in G-Suite, Asana, Slack, Eventbrite, HubSpot and Notion are considered an asset.
  • Experience presenting to groups; facilitating discussions, leading workshops and conducting learning opportunities is considered an asset.
During the interview process, we will be looking for behaviours that demonstrate:
  • Empathy. Founders are constantly stuck between a rock and a hard place. You must be there to push the rock back and ease the founders mind to make decisions that reflect reality and represent what is best for the business.
  • Growth Mindset. Growth for the founder’s company and themselves is crucial to adding value to the programming while Platform Calgary. Whether or not the founder decides to continue with their business they should be left with a stronger foundation to begin anew someday.
  • Breadth. You will be creating relationships with founders that come from diverse sectors, the ability to execute on expertise within these environments will be important in growing your portfolio of advised companies.
  • Organization. Prioritization of tasks will be essential in best serving the Founders at Platform Calgary. Reflecting this prioritization to key stakeholders is vital to the team’s success.
  • Structure. Must be able to frame objectives for the team and lead team members or founders through programming or internal procedures.
Platform Calgary perks:
  • Salary Range: $60,000 to $70,000
