After immigrating to Canada in 2013 in search of a better life, Alka witnessed first-hand the inequalities faced by immigrants in Calgary, which sparked her passion for helping newcomers build better futures in their new homeland. 

Before joining Immigrant Services Calgary as the Director of Communications & External Relations, Alka provided strategic and operational guidance to organizations across a variety of industries including real estate, in which she supported the development and management of a €41 million project financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Most recently, she led external communications and helped fundraise over $45 million annually for a Calgary chapter of an international fundraising organization. 

Alka holds a bachelor’s degree in communications and mass media, and trained as a journalist.
